How to Build an AI Agent for Your Business
By DevSoftTech · Updated October 2026
An AI agent is software that uses a language model to plan steps, call tools and finish a task, such as researching a lead, processing an order or answering a support case.
1. Pick one narrow task. Choose a repeated task with clear inputs and a clear definition of done. Narrow agents are far more reliable than general ones.
2. Map the steps and tools. List what a person does today and which systems they touch. Each system becomes a tool the agent can call through an API or MCP server.
3. Choose the model. Claude and OpenAI models both support tool use. Pick by accuracy on your own examples, speed and cost.
4. Add guardrails. Limit permissions, require human approval for sensitive actions, set spending and step limits, and log everything.
5. Test with real cases. Build a test set of 50 to 100 real examples and score the agent before and after every change.
6. Launch small, then expand. Start with a pilot group, watch the logs weekly and widen the scope once results are steady.
Cost and time. A focused agent usually takes four to six weeks and starts around ₹60,000. See our AI Agent Development service for a fixed quote.
