Shopify vs WooCommerce for Indian Online Stores
By DevSoftTech · Updated October 2026
Both Shopify and WooCommerce can run a successful online store in India. The right choice depends on your team, budget and how much control you want.
Shopify is a hosted platform. Hosting, security and checkout are handled for you, so you can launch quickly. You pay a subscription plus any paid apps, and customisation is done through themes, apps and code.
WooCommerce is a plugin for WordPress. You host it yourself, so you have full control and no platform lock-in, but you also manage hosting, updates, backups and security.
Payments and shipping. Both can accept UPI, cards and cash on delivery through supported payment gateways and connect to Indian courier and shipping tools. Check the current options for your gateway before you decide.
SEO and speed. Both can rank well when set up properly. Shopify is fast by default; WooCommerce is fast when hosting and plugins are well chosen.
Which to pick. Choose Shopify if you want to launch fast with less maintenance. Choose WooCommerce if you want maximum flexibility, a content-heavy site or lower platform fees.
We build both. See our Shopify Development and WordPress Development pages, or send your requirements for a fixed quote.
